This cartload of beautiful
rubbish is for recycling.
Well organized businesses had set times for dumping cardboard on the pavement and the ox cart was ready waiting. The recycling of materials such as cardboard, plastic bottles, rope or scrap metal, was done by collectors with ox carts. They would load up their cart until it ballooned, and then tow it away themselves on foot. At night the recycle merchants were likely to sleep underneath their cart. (There was no ox to pull the cart.) |
