Partly based on movement studies of Fox
Squirrels
Every summer when the cottonwood fluff begins floating down, we would be visited by a hummingbird couple. They always chose the same major branch on a female Box Elder tree for their tiny nest. A squirrel would often harass them by approaching the nest. Both male and female squirrels enjoyed this activity. Sometimes I think the squirrels did it for entertainment in a moment of boredom. A fearless male hummingbird would chase them off every time. |
